Unlike most other professions, English barristers practise as individuals, meaning that all members of Chambers are personally responsible for their own work. This traditional independence is still carefully observed in modern practice. This allows two members of the same chambers to be involved in the same court case, or in arbitration, mediation or adjudication on opposite sides or in different capacities - a common occurrence in specialist engineering and construction cases.
Barristers are usually instructed by a solicitor, but our members can also accept instructions under the Direct Professional Access Scheme. For work outside the UK, the client or foreign law firm can either instruct the barristers directly or involve UK solicitors.
We welcome all work, ranging from the very small to the exceptionally large, covering the whole spectrum of disputes. Our barristers will travel throughout the UK and abroad for site inspections, conferences, meetings, hearings and international arbitrations as required.
