Construction

Responsible since the 1950s for the renowned leading text on construction law, 'Keating on Building Contracts', Keating Chambers has an enviable and long-established reputation for excellence in construction disputes.

Much of Chambers' practice is in the specialist Technology and Construction Court (TCC). Two former members of Chambers are now TCC Judges, while a former TCC Judge is now a member of Chambers.

Widely respected and acknowledged specifically for their ability to deal with disputes appropriately, our members also have extensive experience in other forms of dispute resolution, not just as counsel, but as arbitrators, adjudicators and mediators.

The work carried out by members of Chambers typically involves:

  • claims for outstanding payment in respect of construction works
  • claims relating to defective construction works
  • claims arising out of delayed construction works
  • claims relating to all commonly used standard form building contracts, including JCT, ICE, FIDIC and GC/Works
  • professional negligence claims in connection with construction professionals (surveyors, architects and engineers)
  • claims in connection with the enforcement of adjudicators' and arbitrators' decisions.

Members of Chambers have been instructed as counsel in connection with many recent high-profile major construction projects, including: Wembley Stadium, the Millennium Stadium, the London Eye, the Swiss Re Tower ('the Gherkin'), Portcullis House, the Royal Brompton Hospital, the Trafford Centre, the Lowry Centre, the Great Eastern Hotel, the Great Western Hotel, Aintree Racecourse, the Bath Spa, the Defence Procurement Agency offices at Abbey Wood in Bristol, the Dudley Hospital, and the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth.
