Support

Pro Bono and Charitable Work

Many of our barristers undertake pro bono work (i.e. without being paid) for suitably deserving cases.  Most pro bono cases are received from either the Bar Pro Bono Unit or the Free Representation Unit, but in some cases Members of Chambers may be willing to advise or represent litigants on a direct public access basis.

Keating Chambers also supports a variety of charities, both big and small including the following:

Chambers is a founding member of and regular contributor to the Bar Pro Bono unit, which provides free legal advice and representation to those who cannot afford to pay.  We also give regular financial support to CRASH, the construction industry charity for homeless people.

Members of Chambers and staff have recently taken part in the annual London Legal Walk (Bar Pro Bono Unit). We raised over £6000 for the Bar Pro Bono Unit, FRU and the London Legal Support Trust, a total which broke the record for the most ever raised by any barristers’ chambers.

Demolition

Through our Senior Clerk, Nick Child, we organise and support Law Rocks!. This is an evening of rock music held at London’s famous 100 Club where bands drawn from solicitors’ firms and our other clients compete before an enthusiastic crowd and celebrity judges. Although yet to win, Rough Justice, featuring Marcus Taverner QC on lead guitar, is developing a cult following amongst fans. The event takes place three times a year, and raises money for a variety of charities chosen by the bands themselves.

Keating Chambers Basketball Team

As the result of links formed from our international practices, Chambers is also proud to be the official sponsor of the Keating Chambers Basketball Team from Magpapalayoc, San Leonardo Nueva Ecija in the Philippines.

The Anacondas

Keating Chambers sponsor The Anacondas, a football team for under nines in the West Sutton Little League. We wish the management and players of The Anacondas the best of luck for the season

Law Rocks

On the evening of 17th November 2011, the six winners of Law Rocks! came together at The 100 Club in London’s Oxford Street, for a joint celebration of their victories and to raise money for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. The world famous stage was adorned by bands from Bird & Bird, CMS Cameron McKenna, Hogan Lovells, Mishcon De Reya, Practical Law Company and Berwin Leighton Paisner. Addleshaw Goddard, the band that played the first ever song at a Law Rocks! event, warmed the crowd up in their own inimitable way. After some memorable and often dramatic sets and a raffle with some quite fantastic (and kindly donated) prizes, the total raised for GOSH totalled £11,000. See www.lawrocks.com for further details on this and future Law Rocks! events.
